The Helsinki District Court issued a judgment on the 16th of February 2018 in a criminal trial whereby a former employee of Bytebuffet Oy (currently Lunchie Oy) was accused of infringing and abusing business secrets. The court sentenced the defendant. In court decision, Resq Club Oy’s founder and former CEO Tuure Parkkinen was found guilty and sentenced to probation and to compensate for the costs incurred by Bytebuffet Oy.
In the main proceedings of the District Court on the 2nd of November 2017, the court ordered that Bytebuffet Oy’s civil claims for damages will be dealt with in litigation at a later date.
The judgment states that Parkkinen, who was fired from Bytebuffet Oy in 2015, brought along all essential business secrets related to Lunchie service concept. Parkkinen has unlawfully used Lunchie service concept and business plan in its entirety when copying a whole concealed and unique concept, product development data and plans in particular, and utilizing them in his own business through ResQ Club Oy.
– The case has been pending since 2016, so we are happy that a decision has been reached. Lunchie won and the defendant was sentenced. We will study the judgment of the District Court carefully and form our final opinion later, says Janne Klix, CEO of Lunchie Oy.
